About Lauren Shechter, LCSW, SEP
Welcome! I'm Lauren Shechter (she/her) and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Somatic Experiencing Practitioner in private practice in Portland, OR. I hold a Masters degree from Columbia University's School of Social Work with a focus in clinical practice.
I work with individuals from diverse backgrounds across age, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, professional practice, education level, and spirituality. I strive to practice cultural humility and honor each person's preferences, traditions, and goals.
In addition to private practice, I've worked as a therapist in non-profit community mental health agencies in Washington, DC, New York City, and Portland, OR providing individual, group, and family therapy to children, adolescents, adults, and older adults with a variety of goals, backgrounds, and experiences. I've also provided clinical supervision to MSW graduate students and newly licensed clinicians.
I have certificate training in Somatic Experiencing (SE), a trauma resolution model, to help clients recovering from traumatic events. For current SE training students, I am approved to provide personal sessions at the beginning and intermediate levels.
Feel free to contact me with any questions or to schedule an appointment. My office is located near Powell's Books in downtown Portland accessible by the Blue and Red MAX lines, the Portland streetcar, and the 12, 15, 19, 20, 44, and 77 bus lines. Street parking and pay parking lots are also available.
